Description
Neurontin belongs to a group of medicines used to treat epilepsy and peripheral neuropathic pain (prolonged pain caused by nerve damage).
The active substance in Neurontin is gabapentin.
Neurontin is used to treat
Various forms of epilepsy (seizures that are initially limited to certain parts of the brain, whether or not they spread to other parts of the brain). The doctor treating you or your child aged 6 and over will prescribe Neurontin to help treat epilepsy when the current treatment does not completely control the condition. You or your child 6 years of age and older should take Neurontin in addition to your current treatment, unless you are told otherwise.
Neurontin can also be used on its own to treat adults and children over 12 years of age.
Peripheral neuropathic pain (prolonged pain caused by nerve damage). Peripheral neuropathic pain (occurs mainly in the legs and / or arms) can be caused by various types of diseases, such as diabetes or herpes. Feelings of pain can be described as heat, burning, throbbing, shooting, stabbing, piercing pain, tingling, numbness, tingling, tingling, etc.
Recommended dose for epilepsy
Adults and adolescents
Take as many capsules as your doctor has told you. Your doctor will usually increase your dose gradually.
The starting dose is usually between 300 mg and 900 mg each day.
The dose can then be increased according to your doctor’s instructions to a maximum of 3600 mg daily in 3 single doses, ie. once in the morning, once in the afternoon and once in the evening.
