Description

Fluconazole is a drug from the group of so-called antifungals (antifungals).

Fluconazole is used to prevent and treat infections caused by various types of fungi. The most common causes are yeasts of the genus Candida.

Adults
Your doctor may prescribe this medicine to treat the following fungal infections:
Cryptococcal meningitis – inflammation of the meninges caused by fungi
Coccidioidomycosis – a disease of the respiratory system (bronchi and lungs)
Infections caused by Candida that are localized in the bloodstream, internal organs (heart, lungs) or urinary tract
Candidiasis of the mucous membranes – infections of the mucous membranes affecting the mucous membranes of the mouth, throat, and inflammation of the oral cavity when wearing dentures
Genital candidiasis – infections of the male and female genitals
Skin infections – e.g. infections of the foot (athlete’s foot), groin, nails, ringworm.
Fluconazole  may also be prescribed in the following cases:
To prevent recurrence of cryptococcal meningitis To prevent recurrence of fungal infections of the mucous membranes
In order to limit the recurrence of vaginal candidiasis To limit infections caused by Candida in a weak and malfunctioning immune system.

Adults
Disease Dosage
For the treatment of cryptococcal meningitis
400 mg on the first day, then 200 to 400 mg once daily for 6 to 8 weeks or longer if necessary.

Sometimes the dose can be increased to 800 mg.

To prevent recurrence of cryptococcal meningitis 200 mg once daily until your doctor tells you to stop treatment
For the treatment of coccidioidomycosis
200 to 400 mg once daily for 11 to 24 months or longer as needed.

Sometimes the dose can be increased to 800 mg.

For the treatment of infections of the internal organs caused by Candida 800 mg on the first day, then 400 mg once a day until your doctor tells you to stop treatment
Infections of the mucous membranes affecting the mucous membranes of the mouth, throat, and inflammation of the oral cavity when wearing dentures. 200 to 400 mg on the first day, then 100 to 200 mg daily until your doctor tells you to stop treatment
For the treatment of fungal infections of the mucous membranes – the dosage depends on the location of the infection 50 to 400 mg once daily for 7 to 30 days until your doctor tells you to stop treatment
For the prevention of infections of the mucous membranes of the mouth and throat 100 to 200 mg once daily or 200 mg three times a week for as long as there is a risk of infection
For the treatment of genital candidiasis 150 mg once
To limit the recurrence of candidiasis 150 mg every third day (days 1, 4 and 7), then 150 mg once a week for 6 months until there is a risk of infection
Skin and nail infections caused by fungi Depending on the site of infection
50 mg once daily, 150 mg once weekly, 300 to 400 mg once weekly for 1 to 4 weeks

in foot infections (athlete’s foot) caused by fungi, treatment can last up to 6 weeks,

for nail infections – until the infected nail grows back

To prevent candida infections in a weakened and malfunctioning immune system
200 to 400 mg once daily as long as there is a risk of infection
