Description

Flagyl belongs to the group of anti-infective imidazole derivatives.

 

What it is used
for This medicine is indicated for the treatment of:

Amoebiasis (an infectious disease involving blood-mucous diarrhea);
Urogenital trichomoniasis;
Nonspecific vaginitis;
Giardiasis (infectious disease affecting the small intestine and diarrhea);
Anaerobic infections caused by sensitive anaerobic microorganisms;
Prevention of surgical infections;
Treatment or prevention of infections caused by sensitive anaerobic bacteria after parenteral manipulations.

 

The recommended dose is:

Vaginitis (inflammation of the vagina) and urethritis (inflammation of the urinary tract) caused by Trichomonas vaginalis:
Adults and adolescents:
2000 mg as a single dose or 200 mg three times daily for 7 days or 400 mg twice daily for 5-7 days.
Your partner should be treated with you even if he or she does not show any clinical symptoms.

Children under 10 years of age: 40 mg / kg orally as a single dose or 15-30 mg / kg / day divided into 2-3 doses for 7 days. Do not exceed 2000 mg / dose

Nonspecific vaginitis
Adults: 500 mg orally twice daily for 7 days. Your partner needs to be treated with you.

Children over 12 years: 400 mg twice daily for 5-7 days or 2000 mg as a single dose.

Amoebiasis
Adults:
1.50 g / day in 3 doses for 7 days
Children over 10 years of age: 400 to 800 mg, three times daily for 5-10 days.

Children

Children 7 to 10 years of age: 1000 mg daily for three days.
Children 3 to 7 years of age: 600 to 800 mg once daily for 3 days.

Anaerobic infections
Adults: 1 g to 1.50 g / day.

Children:
Children> 8 weeks to 12 years: 20-30 mg / kg / day as a single dose or in 3 divided doses (7.5 mg / kg every 8 hours). The daily dose may be increased to 40 mg / kg according to the severity of the infection. The duration of treatment is usually 7 days. Children <8 weeks: 15 mg / kg as a single daily dose or divided into 2 doses (7.5 mg / kg every 12 hours).

In neonates <40 weeks gestational age, metronidazole accumulation may occur during the first week of life because serum metronidazole concentrations should be monitored preferably after a few days of treatment.
